AI companions store prompts, chat history, and sometimes generated images. Privacy toggles—visibility, retention, export, and deletion—are easy to skip during onboarding. Treat them as part of the product decision, not a later cleanup chore.
What to locate in the first session
- Visibility: which fields are public versus private on a character or profile card.
- Retention: whether chats persist by default and how to clear a thread.
- Deletion: removing a character versus closing the entire account.
- Uploads: whether reference images leave your device and under which policy.
Keep the persona fictional. Do not paste real addresses, workplaces, or someone else’s private messages into a companion prompt. Our longer privacy checklist was written for dating tools; the same “smallest necessary input” rule applies to companion apps.
Where the companion reviews help
Read the account-control sections in our Candy, DreamCompanion, and DreamGF reviews before spending. When you decide to inspect a product, partner routes stay first-party: Candy AI, DreamCompanion, and DreamGF. Confirm the live privacy policy in each account; documentation changes.
